Miami, Florida (October 18, 2023) — A boat crash at Black Point Marina prompted an emergency last Wednesday afternoon. Three people fell overboard. The crash caused the boat to sink off the coast of Homestead.
Authorities from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) arrived on the scene to assist. The three boat passengers were rescued from the water. No fatalities were reported.
After investigation, the FWC confirmed the cause of the accident. The small boat crashed into a concrete channel marker, forming a large hole on the side of the boat. The boat took on water and sank.
Chris Adams, a boat captain, passed by the wreckage after the boat crashed and sank. He told CBS News that he smelled the fuel. As law enforcement personnel rescued the boat crash victims from the water, he stopped to help pick up the floating debris that had fallen from the boat.
Two of the boat passengers were airlifted by helicopter to Jackson South Medical Center. There is no word yet on their condition. The third person was checked over by medical personnel at the scene but was not taken to the hospital.
